The Grumman TBF/M Avenger is an American torpedo bomber developed initially for the United States Navy and Marine Corps, and eventually used by several air and naval aviation services around the world.
This aircraft was based on HMS ILLUSTRIOUS 854 NAS. These torpedo bombers took part in Operation Meridian.  It was part of a series of British air attacks directed at Japanese-held oil refineries on Sumatra.
